Mike Puleo knew exactly what charity he was going to support when he found he earned his Good Samaritan Bonus check at the end of January.
Puleo's step-daughter, Alannah Flanick spent three months in Africa volunteering with Flying Kites, an orphanage that cares for young people who have lost their parents.
Flanick worked with the organization from January until March of 2013. She is in graduate school working toward a degree in Nutrition and Global Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and plans to volunteer with Flying Kites again after finishing her degree.
Puleo said his wife, Ann and step-daughter sponsor children through the charity, based in Njabini, Kenya.
(Alannah) wants to go back and do more work there after she graduates," Puleo said. It's just a great organization that helps a lot of young people."
