Eric and Bobbi Bellaire picked up a GSB check for $500 in May, and decided to support Autism Speaks in honor of their grandson Isaac Alexander.
Autism Speaks was founded in February of 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their long-time friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization.
Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the world's leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Autism Speaks is proud of what it has been able to accomplish and looks forward to continued successes in the years ahead.
Autism Speaks' goal is to change the future for all who struggle with an autism spectrum disorder. Autism Speaks is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a possible cure for autism. It strives to raise public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society.
Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis.
